Lady Provost Joins Tartan Committee to Celebrate Art Deco Era
Aberdeen’s prestigious Touch of Tartan Ball is set to step back in time to coincide with the Beach Ballroom’s 80th anniversary.
The annual event in aid of CHILDREN 1st, which is one of the biggest fundraisers in Scotland, has taken place at the venue for the past 21 years so this year’s theme will be a celebration of the art deco era.
The Ball organising committee has also recently welcomed Lady Provost Sandra Stephen to the team.
The Lady Provost, who has worked with children throughout her life and supports a number of charitable organisations, will undoubtedly offer a great deal of support and expertise to the Touch of Tartan Committee.
To launch this year’s theme Mrs Stephen got into the 1920’s spirit as she donned a flapper-style outfit at the city’s Beach Ballroom alongside Ball Patron David Paton.
The pair stepped back 80 years to pose in front of a 1925 Bentley Tourer Blue Label.
This year’s glittering Touch of Tartan Ball is taking place on 20th November and the main sponsors are BP, Enterprise Engineering, Pentagon Freight Services, Rigmar and Transocean. This year’s other sponsors are Bristow, Logik Image Management and Marathon Oil UK and there are still a number of additional sponsorship opportunities available.
The event has always proved a popular date on the corporate events calendar, with more than 500 attendees. In recent years, television personality & designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and his wife Jackie have been celebrity guests.
Since it was launched in 1987 the event has raised more than £1m for Scottish charity CHILDREN 1st and the money has been used to fund a number of projects in Aberdeen and across the North-east.
The charity, which helps vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Scotland, says the support from the Touch of Tartan Ball has been a huge boost to youngsters in the local area.
Emily Johnson of CHILDREN 1st said: “This is the biggest single event across Scotland which raises the most money and has the highest profile. Over the past 21 years the money has helped us grow immensely in the North-east. Most importantly, it has allowed us to increase the level of services we can offer children in Aberdeen and the surrounding area, as well as support our abuse recovery service throughout Scotland.”
