Award winning jeweller and royal engraver Malcolm Appleby has again designed the stunning Banchory Bangle to raise money in aid of CHILDREN 1ST.

Mr Appleby has designed a new bangle every year since the late 1970s for the Touch of Tartan Ball, which has so far raised in excess on £1m for Scottish child welfare charity, CHILDREN 1ST.

Butterflies are the inspiration for this year's bangle which stems from Mr Appleby's love of nature.  He also supports the Butterfly Conservation Society.

Every year Mr Appleby’s bangle is a highly sought after accessory in the North-east of Scotland and this year Mr Appleby has designed three exclusive pieces for the charity, all of which display his beautiful craftsmanship.  The main prize is the 18ct gold Banchory Bangle, with a replica silver bangle as second prize and a silver pendant to compliment the bangles as an additional prize.

The intricate design of the butterfly wings on the jewellery all display different designs including zebra stripes, tiger stripes, floral and paisley patterns. The three piece collection is on display at the Wee Boorachie, Milton of Crathes, until Friday 19th November when the raffle will be drawn at the Touch of Tartan Ball held at the Beach Ballroom.

Anne Houston, Chief Executive of CHILDREN 1ST, “The Banchory Bangle generates a great deal of income for the charity and we really appreciate the amazing creativity and intricate work which goes into bringing these pieces to life each year.  The money raised allows CHILDREN 1ST to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people here in the North-east of Scotland.”

In the North-east, the charity’s Corrieneuchin services in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire work with children to help them recover from abuse and trauma, while the Fraserburgh Families service protects children affected by parental drug or alcohol abuse.

CHILDREN 1ST also runs Family Group Conferencing services throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, which bring families together to find ways of keeping children who cannot be looked after by their parents within their extended family instead of being taken into care.

For a chance to win this year’s stunning Banchory Bangle masterpiece, tickets are available from the CHILDREN 1ST office at 36 Carden Place (01224 251151), the CHILDREN 1ST charity shop at 38 St Andrew Street (01224 622814), the Wee Boorachie retail outlets in Banchory and Aboyne or by contacting Brenda Larkin on 01330 822638.
