CHILDREN 1ST and the Touch of Tartan Ball

The CHILDREN 1ST Touch of Tartan Ball, which in 2012 celebrated its silver anniversary, remains one of Aberdeen's most prestigious charity events and one of the biggest fundraisers in Scotland.

Since its launch, this annual event, which attracts around 500 attendees each year, has raised more than £1.6M for one of Scotland's leading child welfare organisations, CHILDREN 1ST, which offers help and support to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people.

CHILDREN 1ST work with children and families to help them change their lives for the better.

How do they do it? Their work includes three big things. The three areas fit together to make sure we reach as many children as much as they can. They deliver services around the country in homes and communities, including Aberdeen City and Shire, that help children and families every day; they speak out for children's rights by influencing legislation and campaigning to change attitudes towards children and they share their expertise with others, both professionals and volunteers who work with children and families through their training and consultancy services.

The vision of supporting families under stress, protecting children from harm and neglect, helping them to recover from abuse and promoting children's rights and interests is that of the Touch of Tartan Ball Committee which continue its success in raising funds to enable this most worthwhile of causes to continue.

The Touch of Tartan Ball was the brainchild of CHILDREN 1ST representative, Major Ian Robertson, in the mid-eighties but only became a large-scale event when the late Princess Margaret began supporting and attending the event. However, in recent years, television personality and designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and his wife Jackie have been guests of honour and continue to be generous supporters of both the event and the charity.
